“Sneaton Castle struck me as more than just a wedding venue; the surprisingly excellent food, especially the lamb, signals a kitchen operating at a high level. The thoughtful décor, blending priory history with agricultural touches, creates a warm, quirky atmosphere that's both inviting and memorable. It certainly seems a place where new beginnings could feel particularly special.”

Sneaton Castle is a visually stunning property with a sweeping drive leading to an historic building and beautifully decorated interiors. Guests particularly appreciate the spacious grounds, sometimes even spotting alpacas from the terrace, and the convenient location that offers both tranquility and proximity to Whitby town. The breakfast served in the garden restaurant is a highlight for many, featuring great quality ingredients, while the Gatekeeper room stands out with its private hot tub. Some guests have noted that arranging an evening meal on arrival wasn't possible, so pre-booking is advised to fully enjoy the dining experience.

Adequate Stay

spacious room spotlessly clean room digital fan disabled parking thick batter chaotic service
The room was spacious it was spotlessly clean. I had views overlooking the gardens. The digital fan was a nice touch as it cooled the room. Bothams biscuits were also provided.
I found no disabled parking available on arrival. I had to walk a long way inside to the restaurant. The food was ok the batter was too thick on the fish. The service felt chaotic.

characterful building attentive staff long road disabled parking
The breakfast was very good (especially the locally sourced items). The building itself is full of character and history. It once served as a nunnery. The staff were attentive.
The approach road is long. It meant walking a distance inside the building to reach the parking area after dropping off my husband. There were no available disabled parking spaces.

varied breakfast helpful staff resident alpacas dreary ambiance plastic hedging strange philosophy
The breakfast was varied and filling! The staff were helpful and cheery. I enjoyed sitting on the terrace overlooking the fields and resident alpacas. The terrace WAS lovely.
The decoration throughout gave the impression of being picked by the pallet. The bistro neither resembles a barn nor anything else really. The plastic box hedging IS a weird addition.

amazing staff tea service immaculate grounds strong smell kitchen noise high price
The lady at check-in was amazing. the room was beautiful and it was very clean. Plus, tea and coffee were provided. the castle itself was gorgeous and its grounds were immaculate.
the room i stayed in was right above the kitchen. i could smell cooking all evening and again in the morning, it was quite strong. i think i just got unlucky with that room, though the price we paid for it including breakfast was £180.
