“Appleby Castle intrigues; a 12th-century structure offering individually decorated rooms and extensive grounds for wandering, it's a genuine step back in time. The castle's history is palpable with guided tours, and dining aims for an exquisite touch; however, some may find its quirks part of the experience. It's certainly a memorable, if unconventional, stay.”

Authentic Castle Experience

helpful staffmodern amenities
I found the staff to be helpful, attentive, and professional. The bedroom felt luxurious. It was comfortable with a good mix of old-world charm and modern amenities where needed. (I especially liked that they provided enough sockets for my phone and coffee maker!)

the grounds were lovely to walk around.
The shower decided to quit while i had shampoo in my hair. No staff seemed to know what was happening, and it took a while before the water came back on, which wasn't great!!!

i stayed in a cottage, and it was much better than just a room. it had a kitchen and a living room. my son could regulate himself without disturbing others. the cottage allowed us to self-cater which worked well.
the breakfast was not worth the money paid, which discouraged us from having dinner there.
